The UN Climate Change Conference UK 2021, also known as COP26, arrives with much anticipation in Glasgow promoting with it a sense of urgency in the need to tackle climate change. Taking place 31st October to 12th November 2021, the event unites parties across the world to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Essential to this, is the UK’s commitment to inspire climate action and how the country is addressing this crucial challenge.
With Driving the Electric Revolution Industrialisation Centres (DER-IC) helping businesses in their journey in electrification, supporting the government’s ambitions for netzero, COP26 is a key date in the calendar and a fantastic opportunity for those involved to discover how we’re pioneering change and growth within the UK supply chain to safeguard the environment for future generations.

WHAT IS DER-IC DOING?
Attendance
· Almost all of our DER-IC partners are part of the COP26 Universities Network.
· Members of the DER-IC team are attending various COP26 associated events in Glasgow to support the cause and share what DER-IC is doing to help the UK with the country’s net zero goals, including our Midlands BDM Hitendra Hirani and Professor Chris Gerada, Professor of Electrical Machines and Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Industrial Strategy, Business Engagement and Impact from Nottingham University.
· DER-IC will be exhibiting at NMIS’s Manufacturing a net-zero future COP26 event on 3rd November with our Scotland BDM Dan Cutting.
· Our partners at University of Strathclyde, University of Edinburgh, University of St Andrews all hold official Observer Status and will be sending delegations to observe proceedings.
· Our partners at WMG, University of Warwick are also sending their expert delegation to COP26. Read more about it here.

Events
· Our project lead, Newcastle University is launching their new exhibition showcasing their pioneering climate-related projects. The exhibition ‘Climate-Emergency-Change’ will run until the end of November at the Hershel Building, Newcastle University campus, Monday to Friday, 9-5pm.
· DER-IC is funded and supported by the UKRI. UKRI has a virtual platform for COP26 that you can sign up and register for: UKRI at COP26
· The Scottish Zero Emission Train Project Showcase will be exhibited at Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway throughout COP26 by DER-IC – Scotland’s partner University of St Andrews

· We’re also delighted to announce that our partners, the University of Strathclyde has been confirmed as host of Conference of Youth and will welcome the world’s largest youth gathering on climate change at its campus. Discover more here.
