The University of Nottingham has received £2million worth of UKRPIF funding towards its new Power Electronics and Machines Centre (PEMC). The funding will enable the PEMC to locally generate renewable energy and optimise it using a DC microgrid.
The PEMC works on technical net zero advances in future power converters and electrical machines which require a large amount of electricity at the testing stage, the team have designed a renewable energy charged battery storage system to enable the testing be as low carbon as possible.
The funding comes through Research England, part of UK Research and Innovation with the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, and Scottish Funding Council.
